United Benefit Advisors, LLC (UBA), one of the nation’s leading employee benefits advisory organizations, today released additional data from the 2009 UBA Employer Benefit Perspectives survey (video) which delineates employers’ positions and opinions on Employee Communications, Personal Health Management and Scope of Benefits Offered. The 2009 UBA Employer Benefit Perspectives survey provides employers with critical benchmarks that help them to compare attitudes and strategies regarding employer-provided benefits with those of their peers and competitors.
“The Employee Communications section of the 2009 UBA Employer Benefit Perspectives survey, yielded some interesting results in light of the issues that exist within today’s health care debates,” according to William Stafford, Vice President, Member Services for United Benefits Advisors. The first of these was in response to the opinions employers expressed about employee reaction to reduction in health plan benefits and/or increase in premium cost-sharing. Employers polled indicated that only one in five employees was upset by a reduction in benefits and/or cost increases. Roughly 40 percent or more of the employers felt their employees are aware of increasing medical costs and, although they didn’t like the changes/cost increases, they understood why the employers had to make them, said Stafford.
In the area of Personal Health Management, more than two-thirds of the employers responded positively to employees needing tools to help them become better health care consumers. Specifically, tools that help the employee choose the best plan option based upon their personal and their families’ medical conditions and needs were most popular. They also felt there is a need for additional employee education on health care costs and ways to manage those costs with a focus on hospital and physician costs and quality data.
